Brazilian Waxing

Brazilian waxing continues to be a popular treatment for removing unwanted hair down there. If you are considering getting a Brazilian but have questions before you feel comfortable booking an appointment, here are some things to know.

What (exactly) is Brazilian waxing?

A Brazilian wax removes unwanted hair in your bikini region, leaving only a small landing strip. You can choose to leave a rectangle, triangle, or a small oval shape of hair on the frontal pubic area. All other hair is removed by waxing.

Brazilian wax is different from bikini wax in that with bikini wax, only hair that is visible when wearing a bikini bottom is removed.

What to expect during a Brazilian waxing?

Speed waxing is the key to Brazilian waxes. Lucky for us, advances in technique and even wax and materials used help minimize the pain and give you the most comfortable waxing experience possible.

During the appointment, your esthetician applies wax to your nether region, removing unwanted hair fast and effectively.

Preparation

Before you book your appointment, make sure your hair is from 1/4 - 1/2 inches long; otherwise, waxing won’t be as effective.

You can exfoliate your skin prior to waxing but allow at least 24-48 hours in between the exfoliation and your waxing appointment.

If you are concerned about discomfort, you could take ibuprofen 30 minutes to an hour before your appointment.

After your waxing appointment

Waxing can lead to some skin redness, red bumps, and irritation.

Immediately after waxing, wear loose cotton clothing to minimize irritation. You may want to avoid showering with hot water as your skin is more sensitive after waxing.

Use gentle products to reduce irritation and to keep your skin moisturized.

Brazilian wax results will last about 3-4 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows. The good news is that waxed hair typically grows in softer and will be more tolerable in consequent visits to the salon.

Brazilian waxing may be better left for the professionals, as DIYing it at home may be much more challenging and painful than a quick trip to the salon. We always recommend booking your appointment with a salon that specialized in Brazilian waxing. The more experienced your esthetician is, the smoother your experience will be - all the way around.
